Title
Note on Art
Subject
A note from LeRoy Neiman on artistic references.
Description
This note from LeRoy Neiman provides an extensive but in no way complete list of artistic references for the artist. Although the document lacks consistency, there is a general, overarching logic to the catalogue. The list is roughly divided into four sections: (1) short fiction inspirations, (2) narrative, group paintings depicting labor and leisure, (3) a continuation of narrative works which bleeds into Abstract Expressionism, and (4) Neiman’s “favorites” in terms of artists. This document then not only illustrates the range and breadth of the artist’s own artistic influences but it also evinces the egalitarian, if not nondiscriminatory, attitude with which he approached and evaluated artwork more generally.
