Note on Art

Subject

A note from LeRoy Neiman on artistic references, spanning from 1934 through 1966.

Description

This note from LeRoy Neiman provides an abridged chronology of cultural icons, artistic events, and historical milestones, spanning from 1934 through the mid-1960s, that proved influential on the artist’s work. The document is divided into three sections: first—celebrities and notorious figures from the 1930s and 1940s, second—musical and theatrical developments in the 1950s and 1960s, and third—miscellaneous occassions of the 1930s. That said, these categories prove cursory, containing an array of exceptions. The nature of the document proves unknown; however, it was most likely written in preparation for the artist’s memoir, All Told.
