Title
Note on Art
Subject
A note from LeRoy Neiman on his artistic process.
Description
This note from LeRoy Neiman discusses his artistic process. Mixing the language of a kind of biological determinism (e.g. “stimulus conditions and responses” or “external stimulus stimuli”) with a discussion of the less tangible, wandering mechanics of thought (e.g. “gist of things”, “association”, “drawing attention - trial and error / trial and error - insights”), Neiman confuses what might considered two disparate modes of cognition. That said, the distinct conversations seem to merge around a consideration of “tactics”, framing the artist’s work as a perpetual pointing towards reaching some sort of unnamable, yet determinate, ends.
