Title

Note on Food

Subject

A Note on The Standhope.

Description

This note from LeRoy Neiman concerns the former New York City sidewalk cafe, The Stanhope. In the document Neiman provides a sketch of the restaurant’s facade and setting, placing emphasis on the eatery’s European-style, alfresco seating. The close of the document touches on the building’s conversion to a residential apartment complex, a transformation which closed the sidewalk cafe. The Stanhope—a staple of the Upper East Side—was frequented by museum goers and neighborhood locals during its glory days.
