This note from LeRoy Neiman provides a list of baseball players featured in a variety of his works. The exact purpose of the record is unclear. Despite this decontextualization from both baseball and his artistic career, the document does serve to disclose something about Neiman's interests: the close connection between writing and drawing. Neiman, known for providing commentary and context in his sketching live or on site, embraced the not only the visual content of the calligraphic but also the leveling of the image to its context. The baseball doodle, with the wrapping player's names, then points to this valence.
