Note on Art

Subject

A note from LeRoy Neiman made in preparation for his Busker Alley mural at the St. James theatre in 1995.

Description

This note was of a few from LeRoy Neiman made in preparation for his prospective mural at the St. James Theatre. The venue, which was set to host Busker Alley, invited the artist to paint the facade of the building in lieu of a billboard. That said, the broadway show was cancelled before its premier at the theater. Neiman’s mural was eventually painted over.

This document itself provides a list of art engaging public space, including frescos in Pompeii and Tuscany, murals in Mexico and Los Angeles, stage sets, as well as the stock busker. In addition, in the upper right hand corner the artist has listed a variety of murals he himself completed. That said, what sets this note apart from the other related notes is the mention of “billboards”.
