This note from LeRoy Neiman provides brief histories and descriptions for a variety of standard gambling “table games. Neiman made a collection of works—paintings, drawings, prints, and posters—engaging gambling as well as site specific pieces for a number of casinos in Las Vegas. The note was made most likely in preparation for the artist’s memoir, All Told.

Chemin de Fer called “Shimmy” in Americans
Baccarat and Chemin de Fer are French varrations of the Italian game Baccara
Introduced as a private gambling game to the French nobility during 1490 reign of Charles VIII
Baccarat, under name of Baccara introduced to America 1912 in NYC sawdust joints (Big Thompson on Houston St.)
STARDUST Hotel, Vegas introduced Shimmin in 1958 1st legalized game in the country Las Vegas style Baccarat in similar to Baccarat found in Monte Carlo Deauville and San Reno plus a few Cuban trimmings
Chemin de Fer is played exactly the same as Baccarat, with the exception the casinos operators take no risk, since players bet against each other
During the early 40s Simmy was a gambling rage in Americas
