Title

Note on Art

Subject

A note from LeRoy Neiman on the disposition of the artist.

Description

This note from LeRoy Neiman looks at the more psychic dimensions of being an artist. Within the document, Neiman comments on the kind of emotional tactics and ad hoc flexibility required in not only navigating the more social dimensions of the art world but more specifically the practice of making art. The note ends with a kind of biological commentary, in which the artist writes: “Artist[s] make observations of subjects / Predictions behavior, ecological factors, capabilities, tactics.” Although the nature of the document is unknown, the writing was most likely made in preparation for the artist’s memoir, All Told.
